This is one of the most popular activities in the Alps. Not for the faint hearted but not impossible for an inexperienced climber.
“Via ferrata” come from Italian, meaning ‘iron way’. Via ferrata involves scrambling or climbing routes over cliffs and sometimes over the whole mountains. The routes are marked and have steel rods and rails, steps and heavy-gauge wire cables fastened to the rock to assist and secure you.
This allow the adventurous walker to enter the world of the alpine climber, by clipping themselves safely onto the fixed via ferrata cable using harnesses, and specialised via ferrata equipment.
